Making Pregnancy More Comfortable

Your belly is growing and it feels like all of your clothes are shrinking - but is it really practical to overhaul your wardrobe? These easy tricks can help you get the most out of your clothing (and budget) and keep you comfortable all pregnancy long.

Turn Your Fave Jeans Into Maternity Jeans

This simple DIY trick has been circulating the mom blogs for years - but that's because it works! If your usual jeans fit, other than being a little snug in the waist, you can create a little extra room for your bump using an ordinary, everyday hair-tie. Cover your waistband with a longer shirt and no one will ever know the difference!

DIY Maternity has great step-by-step photos showing exactly how this trick works.

Extend Your Current Bras

Bra shopping can be a struggle even when you're not pregnant. Your body and your breasts are going to change a lot over the next few months (at least) so buying new bras frequently is just not practical. Bra extenders fit into the hooks of your bra, lengthening the band and letting you wear your regular bras as long as possible. You can find them at Target or on Amazon!

When you do decide it's time to buy new bras, consider bralettes, sports bras, or nursing bras.

No More Shoe-Tying

Slip-on shoes are your new best friends. Seriously - sandals, flip-flops, and basically anything that doesn't tie will make your life so much easier... especially when you reach the point in your pregnancy where reaching your toes is really uncomfortable, if not impossible.

If gym shoes are your thing, you can convert them to slip-ons really easily! U-Lace offers no-tie elastic laces in a ton of different colors. They look and secure like typical laces, but there's no tying involved! You can find similar products on Amazon, too.

Flowy Maxi Dresses

If your due date is basically anytime other than winter (and sometimes even in winter) then you can get away with rocking flowy maxi dresses for your entire pregnancy. Shorter flowy dresses can even become cute flowy tops as your bump grows! Pair them with comfortable, supportive leggings for a cute-and-easy look.

Purchase Pieces That Work For All Stages

Try as you might, it's likely that you'll need at least a couple of new pieces during your pregnancy. That's okay! The key is to look for items that you can wear during all three trimesters and postpartum.

  • Plain cotton tees and tanks can be dressed up or down with a loose cardigan or kimono and a pair of jeans or leggings.
  • Tops with empire waistlines, like our Cloudy Day Shirt, give your belly room to grow and look flattering the whole time.
  • Combination maternity + nursing tops, like our Double Layered Black and White Striped Top, are comfortable enough to wear during your pregnancy but also doubles as a practical-but-cute nursing top.
